About Phoenix-Hearted Woman

Some Things Are Just Meant to Happen

Like sitting down on a log on a beach with a stranger and discovering you are soul sisters.

HELLO!  WE ARE DELANEY & NANCY

We were at a conference for entrepreneurs. We both happened to opt out of the luncheon to take a quiet breather outside (we're introverts) and both sat on the same log on the beach at English Bay. We recognized each other from the conference and started up a conversation. Looking back, I wonder if our souls recognized each other, as well. The synergy was instantly felt and by the end of that lunch break, we had the nascent plan for a new kind of leadership learning experience for women outlined.

We realized that we share several beliefs regarding women in the world and the current paradigm that defines and influences how we get to show up and how we get to lead. I voiced my frustration with the expectations (both explicit and implicit) on me to facilitate and coach in ways that are constrained, flat and, I believe, aren't supportive of what has people thrive and feel fulfilled and motivated. And Nancy voiced her desire to support women through journaling and yoga in opening up to themselves and recognizing their well worn grooves and reckoning with monkey mind. We realized we share a desire for women to thrive by their own rules.

We didn't realize it then, but that's when the seeds of the Phoenix-Hearted Woman retreats were sown.

OUR VISION

That women own their space and transform the way we live, lead and leave legacy.

We know that recent research is unearthing the wisdom that women really thrive as leaders when we have a deep connection to meaning, when we can lean into our intuition, when we operate from deeply held values, and when we take a collaborative and co-creative approach.

Knowing that woman possess different superpowers than men do, we have created an updated model of leadership retreat for women—one inspired by the wisdom of yoga, the wisdom in our bodies and the wisdom of the co-active coaching model which values real connection, intimacy, self-awareness, listening deeply to and nurturing ourselves, while listening deeply to and nurturing the best in others.

Our model takes you on a journey of rediscovery of your truest self from which to build on what is core for you while examining and relinquishing what no longer serves. Our goal is to support you in creating a space for your heart, soul and voice to radiate through the nuanced re-discovery of the values, strengths and wisdom that inform and inspire, the practices that restore, and the actions that give your life fulfilling meaning.

We know that when women abide in their true nature they live and lead authentically and powerfully.

Women are agents of positive change and we want to help women RADIATE and ROAR with confidence so they can be the change.

Meet Delaney

My desire is a world fundamentally changed by the contributions, voices and participation of women who are living and leading by their own rules.

My twenty years experience coaching leaders, leadership teams and business owners—supporting them in leadership development, strategic planning, business development and team productivity—has made one thing clear to me: that women continue to come under intense pressure and scrutiny when they take the lead.

Frustrated by witnessing brilliant women playing down their differences to fit in, playing small or being held back from stepping wholly and authentically into their power by the underlying rules of society, I have evolved my work to focus solely on coaching women. My clients are women of vision, women who wish to lead meaningfully from their whole selves with confidence and the savvy to navigate the challenges they face.

I am a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CTI) and a Professional Credentialed Coach (ICF). As well, I am certified in Applied Neuroscience for Coaching, the Certified Resilience Coaching Program, and I am accredited by Working With Resilience to deliver and facilitate the Resilience at Work® Individual, Leader and Team Surveys.

Meet Nancy

Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.”
~Bhagavad Gita.

As an instructor, I treat each class as a journey that we’re embarking on together. Whether you regard yoga as the consummate tool for self-care (because it is), or as an essential part of your life. Although I may look for ways to assist along the way, ultimately, you are the one taking the steps.

The word "yoga" shares a cognate with the word "yoke, union". The idea is that yoga allow us the foundational connection with the body (at least). Once we can settle ourselves into the here and now of our bodies, then we can navigate through the layered terrain of the mind with the goal of union with the compassionate and joyful genuine self.

To that end, I bring asana (yoga poses), pranayama (mindful breathing), and accessible meditation to assist in forging (and reforging) that connection to the self.

I am a Certified RYT-200 Yoga Instructor, specializing in vinyasa, hatha, yin, and aerial and I train other yoga instructors in aerial yoga.
